Multiple tech experts have recommended WordTracker to me, so I finally signed up for the free trial last night. I want to share this one with you because this tool is extremely powerful in terms of identifying what your potential customers are really looking for.

What is WordTracker?
Wordtracker is a keyword research tool that enables you to choose the best keywords for your website.

Why should You Care?
If you know what customers are searching for, you can increase your website traffic by creating specific content around those keywords.

When I first started edithyeung.org, I often guessed and assumed what my readers are looking for when they go online. I noticed some of my articles (such as Be The Best at Just One Thing) would have thousands of visitors versus some articles would have a few visitors. I slowly learned by researching and talking to people, but the truth is I didn’t really know (am still learning) what EXACTLY that EY.com readers are looking for.

WorkTracker is a great tool to help and reduce (or possibly eliminate) guess work. The key learning for me is that not all people necessarily search on keywords that exactly match my products or services. For EY.com, the offering is personal and professional development, but not everyone are looking for exactly that, instead they are looking for something else. I can give them what they are looking for and offer something in addition to what they want.

As Keith Cunningham would say:
Find out what they want and give it to them.

How to Use WorkTracker?
I am no expert on WordTracker (at least not yet). Just go to the following links and you can learn more:

Understanding KEI
KEI stands of Keyword Effectiveness Index. This is a ranking based on how popular the keyword is, and how much competition there is. The higher the number, the more effective the keyword is going to be. The goal to identify specific keywords which can help you to increase traffic. I did some research and find that “good” KEI is anything over 100, and an “excellent” KEI is anything over 400. I am going to use this KEI strategy to optimize edithyeung.org.

This is really excited about Wordtracker. Hope it would help you too!
